Building the Future of Sound
World-class tech entrepreneur, studio engineer, and researcher

“You gotta always remember the name of the game is: what does it sound like?
I don’t care if you’ve got 90 tracks!
What does it sound like, baby?!”

Award Winning Audio Engineer, Expert & Entrepreneur
With over 25 years in music, I’m an audio engineer, entrepreneur, and researcher passionate about advancing the art and science of sound. I’ve produced and engineered thousands of projects across music, film, and games—earning 4 Grammy® Award Certificates, an Emmy, and multiple Billboard® #1s along the way. I hold a PhD in Sound Recording from McGill University with a special focus in binaural & 3D audio (that’s the real term for “immersive” or “spatial”) for music applications. I also taught at American University and McGill for over 14 years. As founder and CEO of Audible Reality®, I’ve led the development of patented 3D audio technology that helped pioneer what’s now standard in the industry, revolutionizing how music is experienced and leading the way in immersive mixing and mastering through our acclaimed Spatial Mastering® studios.

3D Audio Research for Audio Engineers and Fans of Music
As engineers, our primary role is to translate the artist’s vision, story, and emotion into an experience which connects with their audience. I’ve long been fascinated by how the technical decisions we make in the studio shape that experience. Since 2010, my research has focused on how audio is experienced in three-dimensional space using auditory perception and psychoacoustics to provide the opportunity to objectively evaluate the influence of engineering decisions on listener experience. While completing my PhD in Sound Recording at McGill University, I specialized in binaural and 3D audio—years before AirPods® or mainstream awareness of the field. In specific, I explored how different 3D simulation, recording and mixing techniques impact our perception of auditory motion for both real and virtual environments. To support this work, I developed original software tools for 3D mixing and mastering, which led to co-founding Audible Reality® in 2015 and bringing these innovations into the industry. Awards & Recognition
4 Grammy® Award Certificates as mastering engineer — 11 Grammy® nominations as mixing and mastering engineer — 1 Emmy® Award — Credited mastering engineer (immersive) on the Billboard Top 100 record-holding hit “Lose Control” by Teddy Swims, plus numerous Billboard #1s
My friends at Genelec recently posted a video interview of me at their immersive studio in Boston where I explain some immersive techniques and psychoacoustic principles, then breakdown one of the songs from the immersive album mixes I did for Lucius on the Wildewoman (New Recordings) release. See the full post here: “How Loud Your Heart Gets”.
Thanks to Lucius, Genelec and Good Harbor Music for making this happen.
